He inadvertently exposed a demonic cultivator cabal, and with a moving target harder to strike, Sen flees into the wilds with Lifen and Lo Meifeng in tow. There he learns that not all enemies want your life, and not every threat can be met with a blade. To protect something more precious than his own life, Sen must push his cultivation harder than ever before — or risk losing his soul.

Emerging from the deep wilds, Sen faces a new crisis: his body cultivation method is slowly turning against him and he does not know how to advance it. With time running out, he travels to the one place he never wanted to go — the capital — in search of the manual that could save him. The heart of the kingdom holds dangers of its own. Sen is drawn into a web of court politics, ambitious sects, and a criminal cultivator organization, all while racing toward a lethal showdown that will finally earn him the name Judgment's Gale.

Leaving the capital behind, Sen ventures back into the deep wilds on a final, desperate search for the mad nascent soul cultivator Fu Ruolan — the only one who may hold the manual he needs to complete his body cultivation. In the world of cultivation, things are rarely straightforward. Madness takes many shapes, and Fu Ruolan is no exception. With everything on the line, Sen finds himself reluctantly agreeing to a deal he may well live to regret.

With his body cultivation temporarily stabilized, Sen sets out for a long-awaited reunion with Elder Bo. But his old obligations refuse to release him — years earlier, the nine-tailed fox Laughing River did Sen a favor, and the fox is finally ready to collect. The task sounds trifling: retrieve an old relic from some ruins. Laughing River neglected to mention the horde of devilish beasts, the potent wards, or the fact that the ruins are the size of a city. Sen will need to push his cultivation to its limits to fulfill the debt — or earn the eternal enmity of a nine-tailed fox.

Pressed into service as a distraction and deterrent, Sen must navigate uncertain agendas and noble plots. The name Judgment's Gale may not be enough as enemies old and new reveal themselves, and the wandering cultivator's life will never be the same.
