Good things come to those who wait. Damien Vale didn't, and now he's bound to an Eldritch creature from beyond the farthest reaches of the universe — unfathomable, utterly evil, and fond of being called Henry. To Damien, none of that mattered. He was going to learn magic regardless. Starting his first year at a mage college, he didn't expect it to be easy — but when he's assigned to room with a strange girl whose magic even Henry is wary of, things get complicated. He sets out to become a powerful mage while dealing with a murderous professor, an eldritch creature that has created a teenage persona, and a roommate far more perceptive than he'd like. As Damien struggles with the ramifications of the monster within him, a disturbing truth emerges: Henry might not be the only eldritch creature on the mortal plane — and Damien may be the only one who can stop them.

Damien nearly ended the world. Now, his mistake might be the only thing that can save it. Good things come to those who wait. Damien Vale didn't, and he ended up bound to an Eldritch creature from beyond the reaches of space — one that has lived since the dawn of time, seen the world born and destroyed countless times, and wants to be called Henry. Unusual companion or not, Damien was still determined to attend a mage college and study magic. But if Henry's true nature is revealed, he'll be killed. His teacher is a madman from the front lines of war, his alcoholic dean suspects something is awry, and Blackmist might possibly be the worst school in history. Damien has to prevent the end of the world — but he isn't even sure he'll make it through Year One.

The world is safe — from Henry. Damien has survived all the challenges thrown at him and is starting to enjoy his time at Blackmist. With Henry and Sylph by his side, he just might make it through without getting killed. Herald has other plans. Forces that have lurked at the edge of the Void for countless Cycles have begun to move, and their power grows with every passing day. As more of the truth behind the Void and its purpose on the Mortal Plane is unveiled, Damien is forced to face the possibility that the Cycle might really need to be reset — but he won't let it go without a fight.

An uneasy truce has been struck with the Void. With the threat of the Corruption looming overhead, It Who Heralds the End of all Light and Damien have temporarily set aside their differences for the sake of the Mortal Plane. All Damien needs is to keep his head down and survive the next year — but Blackmist has other plans. The Intraschool tournament is approaching, and Dean Whisp is looking to win, drawing unwanted scrutiny to Damien and Sylph. Meanwhile, the forces warring over the Mortal Plane continue to emerge, and with them comes a man bearing a terrible secret that might change the world forever.

The war between the Void and the Corruption rages on. Damien and Sylph demolished the competition in the Kingsfront Interschool Tournament. Now summer is upon them — but Second is not content to sit around while they relax, and he isn't the only one scheming. It Who Stills the Seas has vanished, leaving Damien and his friends beset by enemies on all sides. School life at Blackmist brings its own challenges: new faces arrive carrying threats Damien had never expected. Too many moving parts are ticking away to Second's plans, and Damien is determined to stop him — though handling an ancient evil may not be any easier than passing his next year of classes.

Not even the Void could hold Damien. His return to Blackmist was victorious, but not without cost. Traces of the Void linger within him, and he left with more questions than answers. Henry's former compatriots continue to advance their plans on the Mortal Plane, and Second's power grows with every passing day. When one of Damien's friends goes missing in Mountain Hall, another of the kingdom's mage colleges, he decides he's done being a bystander. With Void magic pumping through his veins, he's far from the scared student who first arrived at Blackmist — and Mountain Hall is about to find out just how powerful he's become.
