After his parents died, Alex Roth had one plan: become a wizard. Through hard work he earned a place at Generasi, the world's greatest university of wizardry. Then fate intervened—on his eighteenth birthday he is Marked as one of his kingdom's five Heroes, chosen to fight the Ravener. His brand is "The Fool," the worst of the marks. Rather than die or serve the other Heroes, Alex takes his little sister, his childhood friend, and her cerberus, and flees for the university. There he hopes to find refuge, study magic, and unravel the truth about his land's great evil. The only complication: the Mark prevents him from learning and casting spells—unless he can learn to exploit the hell out of it.

After his parents died, Alex Roth had one desire: become a wizard. Accepted into the University of Generasi, the world's greatest academy of wizardry, his path seemed clear—until fate Marked him as one of his kingdom's five Heroes. His brand is "The Fool," the worst of the marks. Rather than die or serve the other Heroes, he rejects divine decree and flees for the university with his little sister, his childhood friend, and her cerberus. There he makes lifelong friends, learns magic from mad wizards, practices alchemy, and fights mana vampires—all while trying to pay tuition. The Mark insists on preventing him from learning and casting spells, enhancing only skills outside of divinity, combat, and spellcraft. Unless he learns to exploit the hell out of it.

After a gruelling trial, Alex Roth has reached Generasi and learned much about how to exploit the Mark of the Fool for new paths of power. Making friends and training in alchemy, all seemed to be going well. But shadows stir. The dark secrets of his homeland haunt him. His sister Selina learns something that shatters her. And unfriendly, monstrous eyes begin tracking Alex through the university halls—just as the murders begin.

With his first year complete, Alex Roth has made a discovery that could change his kingdom forever. As the university prepares an expedition to Thameland, Alex grows stronger through summer courses and time with his friends and family. But conspiracy brews in Generasi. Demonic attacks target the expedition, and as the city prepares for the annual Games of Roal, Alex must ensure his own secrets do not come back to bite him.

As Generasi recovers from the wrath of a demon knight, Alex Roth travels to Thameland to uncover the mysteries of the Ravener. He and his friends have grown in power and are ready to face any threat lurking in the hills of Greymoor. But some things await Alex that no amount of training can counter—for soon, the Heroes of Thameland will be reunited with the Fool. And his secrets are on the line.

Accompanying an expedition of wizards, Alex has proved himself against the dangers of Greymoor, calling upon summoned servants to defeat the Ravener's hunters. But with his pursuers dead, there are only more questions. Now Alex, the Heroes, his cabal, and the mighty Baelin seek answers in the ancient Crymlyn swamp. Other eyes also watch the swamp—evil, demonic eyes—and the Ravener is far from done with Alex.

After a devastating battle, Alex Roth is left with more questions than answers, and as the Ravener grows more aggressive, he and his companions struggle to learn the truth of Thameland's Cycle. Thanks to an old enemy they have one lead, though it will take them into the bowels of the darkest Hells. To prepare, Alex must reveal who he truly is to the other Heroes—and deal with the consequences.

Armed with new knowledge about the Traveller and Thameland's hidden priests, Alex anticipates his identity being discovered sooner or later. His plan: make himself so famous and indispensable to Generasi that the priests would not dare drag him to the front lines. With newfound power, he and his companions compete once more in the Games of Roal, while Alex expands his business empire, grows stronger, and researches his foes. But those foes are not idle.

After a terrible revelation, Alex Roth must unlearn everything he knows of Thameland and the cycle of the Ravener, all while hunting the hidden priests of Uldar's Rise. As the First Apostle prepares to destroy the Fool, the villain receives an unexpected ally. Meanwhile, Alex receives new information about his Mark—information that could utterly change his lifepath. His identity cannot stay hidden much longer.

To master the most powerful spells, Alex discovers that the Mark of the Fool can no longer be worked around—it must be removed or transformed entirely. The Fool of the Traveller's cycle laid the groundwork to do exactly that, but her notes and equipment are hidden in a sanctum somewhere in the far north. If Alex wants to be truly free, he must find it before his enemies find him. The Ravener continues to escalate, and the hidden church hunts him relentlessly.

After years of study, Alex Roth is finally an archwizard who has overcome the Mark of the Fool and empowered his friends and companions. Yet their greatest foe awaits: the Ravener itself, freed from thousands of years of chains and returned to full strength. Alex must call on all his magic, all his bonds, his wits, and his resources—not only to destroy the Ravener, but to shatter the cycle that has chained his kingdom since time immemorial. The epic finale.
