Magical Girl Understudy Anika DuPont arrives at Tokyexico University ready to fight her way out of little-league superhero roles. Every hero on Earth is competing on a reality show for alien children, and Annie wants a major spot. Between coursework, supervillains, a high school rival, and an unexpected connection with drama classmate Bianca, she starts leveling up through the Style System — one episode at a time.

There is one minor-league timeslot available for Magical Girls, and Annie needs to claim it before Magical Boy Vigilant Vow does. But she is on campus probation after a destructive series finale, an anti-superhero organization has it out for her, and her friend Su-Bin is leading the charge against the whole System. A wild spring semester lies ahead.

Annie and her girlfriend Bianca have made the minor leagues and enrolled in an elite associate's program that could be their ticket to the major leagues. But failure means handing the supervillain group 3V1L control of whole districts. As the Third Power War erupts, Annie must grow her skills and figure out whose side she is actually on.
