Prince Hail Teoran has always idolized his father, a legendary Traveler who came through the gates to rescue the continent of Lagrea from darkness. When he finally meets his dad, the reality is deeply disappointing. Then an all-powerful administrator reveals the truth: Hail's world is a game the Travelers constantly play. But Hail is special — as the son of a Traveler and an NPC, he's an ever-evolving native player character, free to make his own way, seek adventure, and face danger on his own terms.

Prince Hail Teoran has always idolized his father, a legendary Traveler who came through the gates to rescue the continent of Lagrea. When he finally meets his dad, reality is a disappointment. Then an all-powerful administrator reveals the truth: Hail's entire world is a game the Travelers play. But as the son of a Traveler and an NPC, Hail is an ever-evolving native player character with the ability to make his own way — seeking adventure, facing danger, and occasionally screwing up in truly epic fashion. The more Hail learns, the stronger he grows in levels, stats, and experience — all of which he'll sorely need when his game world faces a peril that did not come to play.

Earl Hail Jeoran has just been killed in the game world of The Gates of TirNiki. Luckily, his nature as a native player character makes this a minor detail — all he has to do is reboot. But that doesn't mean he's immortal, and someone is about to put that to the test. Drawn into a lethal contest for the throne of Yuikon while an enigmatic enemy assassinates members of the royal line, Hail must also transform his newly inherited North Shire from a bandit-plagued failure into a possession worth having. Court politics may prove just as dangerous as the battlefield.
