Hump grew up believing his master was nothing but an ordinary hedge wizard. When the old man unexpectedly dies, however, his book of spells binds to Hump's soul. Now without a master, Hump sets off to find his place in the world, discover the secrets of magic, and understand the Book of Infinite Pages. Scorned by the gods, wizards can trust only their own wit and skill to survive. Lacking the godly gifts of the Chosen, Hump fights for something more immediate — if he wants to eat, he needs to work. And with a new dungeon opening in Bledsbury, where better for a young hedge wizard to earn some coin?

Legends speak of wizards with the power to rival gods. To Hump, it was just a story. Apprenticed to a wandering wizard, he grew up following the coin from one quest to the next — until the old man suddenly died and his book of spells bound to Hump's soul. Knowing no other life, Hump takes up his master's staff and heads out alone into a world of dungeons and monsters. Scorned by the gods, wizards trust only their own wit and skill. Lacking the gifts of the Chosen, Hump fights for something simpler: with a new dungeon opening in Bledsbury, where better to earn some coin? So begins the path of The Wanderer. The White Flame. The Hedge Wizard.

Hump triumphed over the challenges of Bledsbury Dungeon, but not without cost. Imprinted by the soul of the Wolf Dragon, he must master this new power or risk being consumed by it — the soul is a fragile thing, and he fears what part of himself may have been lost. With the Dragon Keeper Trials looming, he needs to get stronger fast. Seeking further training, Hump and his party track down a wizard acquaintance of his master, only to find a town besieged by otherworldly spirits: locals snatched in the night, adventurers sent to help gone missing, and whispers of a witch luring the creatures to their doorstep. Hump will need every bit of his newfound strength to survive and uncover the truth — though the price may be his humanity.

Scarred by the Remnant Realm, Hump must reclaim his soul. Returning to Sheercliff City, he finds a region plagued by monsters — bad news for most, but for a hedge wizard, it's just good business. Trouble finds him regardless: the Inquisition arrives, accusing him of his master's murder, and it seems there is more to the old man's death than Hump ever believed. Countess Daston offers him protection in exchange for his party fighting the monster surge, as warlocks walk the city streets and newly spawned dungeons threaten its existence. To survive, Hump must consolidate his strength and delve deeper into the potential of the Book of Infinite Pages. The White Flame will be born.
