The Doorverse Chronicles

John Gilliam, the Faceless Man, is one of the world's premier assassins—legendary, never failed. When a job goes wrong, he discovers an entire universe beyond what he knows: the Doorverse, where magic and monsters exist and his skills are frail shadows of the powers that be. Now an Inquisitor, John is tasked with traveling the Doorverse and righting the balance on the worlds he finds. Led by his AI guide Sara, he'll have to become more than a killer-for-hire to survive.

After completing his first mission, John finds himself trapped in what looks like a zombie apocalypse. The mission seems simple—stop the zombies, save the world—but in the Doorverse nothing is ever that simple. His native talents set him against the dominant religion, his target knows he's coming and hunts him at every step, and without his powerful allies from the last mission, he is largely on his own.

In this new world—a dusty, Old West landscape under a green sun—John's training counts for little. Powerful handlers roam the prairie, fighting with tame monsters and magical cards, and to face them he must become a tamer himself. A handler of terrible power is stealing monsters from everyone he meets, and it is up to John to stop him before he shatters the world's balance. He faces a foe far beyond his skills and power, with only a vengeful sheriff and a broken marshal beside him—neither of whom can aid in his battles.

A single step takes John from warmth to a world of ice and darkness where only the strongest survive. Once more he must find the imbalance threatening the world and stop it—but here he faces more challenges than ever. A genocidal war sweeps the land. The people fear and mistrust strangers. Powerful spirits seem to be hunting him. Trapped between spirits of fire and ice, John must choose which to embrace—or find a way to extinguish them all.
