The Cozy Abyss

There are three levels to the afterlife. At the top lie the Celestial Plains. At the bottom is the Chasm. And in between lies the Underworld — where brave soldier Sylas Runewulf finds himself after he dies. Following a mysterious blue prompt, Sylas journeys to the town of Ember Hollow to breathe new life into a quaint local pub, The Old Lamplighter. Along the way, he meets a clever apothecary named Mira and Patches, a slightly unusual corpulent cat. The prompt soon reappears with a warning of an impending invasion, and Sylas must build a community around his humble pub — one he must defend, or they'll all face a fate much worse than death.

Sylas Runewulf has been dead for about a month, but he's making the best of it. The former battle-hardened swordsman is now a brewer and pub owner in Ember Hollow, with new friends, a pet cat named Patches, and a recently purchased farm with a dog named Cornbread. The trouble is Sylas could very well die by the blade again — his pub overlooks the worst place in the afterlife, the Chasm, home to demons and monsters that frequently rise up and wreak havoc. With a looming invasion from the Chasm's fiery depths, Sylas must look to his growing community for the power to survive.

Sylas Runewulf has a busy schedule for a dead man. Since taking up residency in Ember Hollow, the fallen warrior has become a pub owner, a brewer, a farmer, and now he's opening a long-awaited market for rare goods. His social life is flourishing, with a cozy community of friends, a budding romance, and plans to add a magical goose to his household. But danger continues to encroach upon Ember Hollow. The daily warnings of an impending onslaught from the Chasm can no longer be ignored, and a breach in the magical barrier between realms has allowed a deadly monster to roam the nearby forest.
