When forensic accountant SJ is crushed by a rogue tree on her way home from the pub, her death is as absurd as it is abrupt. But instead of oblivion, SJ is reborn in Amathera — a vibrant fantasy landscape full of magic, monsters, and a game-like System whose fine print she never agreed to. Armed with a sassy AI companion named Dave and the questionable skills of a fae assassin, SJ is the one person operating completely free of the System's rules, drawing the attention of gods and dragons alike. Finding her footing in a world where reputation matters will be no easy task.

After a hobgoblin raid leaves the town of Killic in disarray, fae assassin SJ and her AI sidekick Dave know they'll need to devise a strategic counterstrike. But when Cristy — a gnoll left orphaned by the attack — takes things into her own hands, a fierce war suddenly erupts at their doorstep. As the battle rages on, SJ discovers the level cap around Killic has doubled, allowing overpowered Legionnaires, mighty wyverns, and mysterious assassins to stir up trouble. Newly appointed to Killic's council, SJ must be equal parts diplomat and warrior.

Asterfal is a city of staggering contrasts — high glamour and abject destitution, corrupt politicians and an exploited working class. SJ arrives to be inaugurated into the city's council as the ambassador of Killic, but quickly earns a reputation as a benevolent figure and enemy to debauchery, drawing attention from unsavory characters willing to do anything to maintain control. This attention comes in the form of multiple assassination attempts on SJ's life. Meanwhile, her companion Cristy discovers her uncle has been abducted, and they must infiltrate the world of criminals and unscrupulous officials to find him — while SJ will need skills from both her lives to save the city.
