Steve is dying and has nothing left to lose. A stranger's offer sends his consciousness into Tempest, another world, where he wakes as the warrior Abalonious. The realm is already in trouble from previous visitors, a darkness is closing in, and Steve must piece together the secrets no one will speak plainly — before he runs out of time.

The queen of spiders believed she sat atop the food chain. A thirteen-year-old fire mage proved her wrong — and now the spider queen is going to war to settle the score. Captain Luthor Down is supposed to keep the village safe, but Ashley Magnus keeps sneaking off alone. When they investigate missing livestock together, they find dark energy crystals and masses of spider eggs instead.
