After failing the most important exam of his life, Kyle is forced into a VR war — fighting on the front lines as cannon fodder, losing a little part of his memories with every virtual death. When the mission goes wrong, Kyle is stranded on a distant planet and finally given a chance to make an impression in the organization. If he fails, he will lose all will to resist — making him the perfect soldier.

After escaping with vital information, Kyle and his team must plan their next move. Kyle makes unexpected discoveries about himself, his shipmates, and his new body — and finds not one but three stowaways: an exotic female Kiain who helps him unlock his potential, and a deadly Sitha mother protecting her young son. Now fully exposed to their overlords, Kyle places a winning bid on top-tier Mechs — but the price leaves them with a rescue mission they can't afford to turn down.

Kyle and the crew have one chance to win the war on Tolsa, constantly moving between battlefields and helping the rebels — always staying just one step ahead of Motaki. With no respawn facilities and bounty hunters closing in, they are torn between their own safety and doing the right thing: cure a dying species, or seize the finest mech they have ever seen. No matter what they choose, they will need to make a deal with the M-Wolf leader.

Their work complete, Kyle and his guild leave the doomed world of Tolsa. With the rebellion spreading and the economy destroyed, Kyle sets his sights on his final missions: rescue his familiar, meet Motaki's mech challenge, and save the Denti homeworld. But Arndale has other plans, attacking the orphans on Cinna and forcing Kyle to reverse course. With the Sitha's life fading fast, Kyle must push himself and his team to the maximum and make the ultimate sacrifices to defeat Arndale once and for all.
