Jasper Cloud is the final non-person on Earth — orphan son of the last two executed citizens in the Global Republic — struggling to survive in a world where old knowledge is illegal. When a new light appears in the night sky, his only friend becomes a young woman with the power to overthrow tyranny. Hidden enemies are already waiting for her and the living starship empowering her. Jasper slips through the cracks of their trap, empowered as well, and sets out to refine his newfound strength and repair the damaged ship.

Jasper has reunited his friend with the Soulship — a being that is both a mighty living starship and a brave young woman who has scattered her avatars across several worlds to survive. If the Soulship can repair herself, she'll be strong enough to overthrow the oppressors of Earth and free the galaxy. But her damage is severe and her hunters are countless, some lurking inside the ship itself. Jasper is her only line of defense.

The Soulship has recovered enough to fight alongside Jasper. Together they must take back the Soulship's darkened corridors and reactivate ancient systems capable of bringing aid to the rest of the galaxy. Whether they're strong enough to battle the creatures lurking deeper within is unknown — but other forces are moving beyond the stars, and if they wait much longer to act, the night sky will burn.

Jasper and Nova have managed to hold the ship's darkened halls, but the night sky can't wait any longer. Other powers have begun moving, endangering lives connected to the near-extinct starship race and threatening genocide and civil war across the galaxy. They must advance deeper into the ancient vessel and activate systems forgotten even by the Soulship herself. If they can activate the corefire, every monster between the stars — and every tyrant profiting in their wake — will finally have something to fear.

Jasper has helped the Soulship prevent the destruction of an entire world while evacuating its population — a tribe of powerful essence warriors descended from Earth's ancient master metalworkers. New, more powerful foes have arrived, requiring stronger weapons to defeat. Victory will require merging his newly acquired corefire with steel imbued with the power of the sun itself.

Jasper and the Soulship have nearly retaken the emergency floor, now that their crew is strong enough to battle the army of monstrosities emerging from the damaged depths. But both crew and Soulship are still in dire need of resources, forcing them to venture to forgotten planets in search of artifacts capable of awakening their dormant powers. Jasper's soul is drawn by the whisper of a catalyst powerful enough to turn the tide.
