Oberon Blackphoenix nearly unified all the races of his world before betrayal ended his life. Now, over a thousand years later, he wakes again — and he is not happy. Alessa has spent years on the run. When she arrives at a place tied to the secret haunting her life, the meeting that follows may be the one thing that lets her survive.

Returning to Haven after freeing Alessa's mother, Oberon and Alessa work to build their strength in the shadows of the desert. Their string of destruction draws attention, however, and the Lordships begin gathering forces to protect themselves from the spreading undead threat in the west.

A month after defeating the Expedition forces, Oberon's power has grown as far as the desert can sustain. Frustrated by the world's level system, he decides to take a larger piece. He marshals his forces and marches into the continent.

Oberon continues to amass strength and eyes an artifact that would grant him power equal to a god. His hunt leads him into the Wandering Labyrinth — a place even the gods failed to conquer. Something is hurting the Labyrinth from within, and Oberon must decide whether to hinder or aid it. Meanwhile, hidden powers that have slept almost as long as he stir back into the open.

Oberon and Alessa return to the mortal realm, forcing the people of Igerox into impossible choices. The Lordships must push past their limits and embrace their darkest instincts to survive.
