Steve wakes with no memories in an open field of dirt, with only a collection of farm tools and bags of seeds to tell him what he's supposed to do. Hidden messages left by his past self warn that he has already failed once — though he has no idea at what, or how to succeed this time. The world has just undergone a radical change, forcing Steve to fight the undead, bandits, and nature itself as everything falls apart around him. He has an axe, a farm to build, and a mystery he doesn't yet know how to solve.

Steve wakes with no memories in an open field of dirt, armed with farm tools and bags of seeds. Messages from his past self — appearing as floating windows — warn him he has already failed once. As the world undergoes a catastrophic change, Steve must fight the undead, bandits, and nature itself to build something worth protecting, armed with little more than an axe and fragmented clues about who he was.

Steve knows more than before — he's in a country called Lamals, where men are required to have children and then go fight and die. One enemy has been buried under a mountain of broken wall, but bandits, the military, and the country of Lamals itself still stand against him. As his farm and family grow, his past self's cryptic messages suggest something larger is coming to find him.

Steve has taken over the Citadel, stopped the Creep's advance, and begun farming in what was once the Creeplands. The problems closest to home are handled, but others have noticed — and some see him as a resource to be used or eliminated. His mysterious task is coming into focus, assigned by a merciless voice he cannot remember agreeing to serve. Even his axe may not be enough for what lies ahead.
