Reality Benders

An extraterrestrial civilization makes First Contact with Earth, but humanity dismisses their message — all except for instructions to access a mysterious game. As more players join, it becomes clear that in-game events directly affect reality. A countdown timer ticks toward an uncertain end, and no one knows what happens when Earth's guaranteed safety expires.

The countdown continues while Earth remains fractured. Gnat travels with the Shiamiru crew seeking allies among the great spacefaring races, knowing humanity cannot unite on its own. His leaders are unlikely to thank him for taking matters into his own hands — but that has never stopped him before.

The galaxy erupts into war and the Geckho — Earth's protectors — join the conflict, leaving humanity exposed. Gnat and his Shiamiru crewmates fight at the front lines of a massive space war while Earth scrambles to prove its worth on the interstellar stage.

A ceasefire ends and the Dark Faction returns stronger and more numerous than before, led by a brilliant strategist whose mage advisors can see all possible futures. Earth's only hope rests on the bravery of its best fighters — and a starship captained by one lone mage.

The war with the Dark Faction is over, but humanity is no closer to unified defense. More than half of Earth's safety period has elapsed, only one of twelve planetary shield generators has been started, and resources are scarce. Gnat considers a desperate gamble — seeking help from ancient, long-vanished races deep in space.

Stranded in a distant galaxy after a brutal space battle, Gnat works to repair his damaged frigate while remaining optimistic. Back on Earth, the Geckho demand a military draft, sending human forces to a distant space war. Gnat finds himself at the center of grand interstellar politics, with the future of humanity hanging in the balance.

Fifty thousand of Earth's finest soldiers ship out on their first tour of duty — only to find their Geckho commanders view humans as expendable cannon fodder. The Kung of Earth must choose: obey the suzerains and watch his people die, or defy them and risk Earth's total destruction.

An unstoppable invader from another galaxy sweeps through system after system. Gnat embarks on a long journey to unite scattered branches of humanity, but uniting them under a single leader may prove just as difficult as facing the enemy itself.

Gnat has become a prominent figure in galactic politics, balancing obligations to his Geckho suzerains against humanity's growing ambitions. As the great war has shifted the balance of power, Gnat works to advance Earth's position — and wonders whether independence from alien control is truly wise.
