As the years start running out, you often find that life has left you completely alone. This is what has happened to one military veteran who has lived through many of history's flash points. In order to inject some color into his final days, the former soldier signs a contract with a company that has developed a fully immersive virtual world. Project Alpha Rome is a multi-level city plagued by endless wars between humans and mutants. Under the nickname Volper, the veteran sets out on his path alone — and thanks to his attentive, reflective approach, he begins spotting things other players have missed, raising deeper questions about the true purpose of the project.

What can you do when you only have two years left under the sun? You can immerse yourself in virtual reality. A retired military veteran with little time remaining discovers a new project launching soon — a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk game called Alfarome that promises to test your endurance and reward sharp players. Taking into account his past, this virtual world seems perfect for him. He enters as Volper, alone and ready to apply skills earned over a lifetime.

He is a cyber dweller — a gamer who has grown up in the web of virtual illusion woven from hundreds of phantom worlds. His biggest dream is to dump the real world for good. A neuronet implant becomes part of him, but it's not enough. Then a new universe opens up before him: Phantom Server, a game of the future where the pursuit of an adrenaline rush turns into a battle for survival. The most terrifying mystery lies ahead when he gradually starts to realize — this is a road of no return.

Volper finds this game too complicated and decides to find answers to some of his questions — not for himself, but for the sake of the people he has decided to take care of. He also wants to unravel the mystery connected to the strange profession of Scurfifer. But will he be able to solve all the mysteries around him, and find someone who can answer at least some of his questions?

The Eurasia fleet has entered the Darg star system, and the unsuspecting players look forward to the adventure of their lifetimes. Zander alone faces a harsh and unpredictable alternative storyline. The girl he loved is gone. His nervous system is impregnated with artificial neurons containing fragments of ancient AIs. Alien artifacts implanted in his body allow him to survive in the deadly cyberspace of Phantom Server — but his unique development branch pushes him toward the edge, where every step may be his last.

Volper now realizes Alpha Rome is not a game — the number of respawns is limited and might one day run out. He has also taken on a group of teenagers and turned them into a lethal combat squad, but their success has caught the attention of powerful corporations. Volper is the focus of a manhunt. Why were the Skurfaifers wiped out all those years ago? He must clear his debt with the person who helped him gain this unique profession — which means heading down to level zero, a place filled with monsters and jeopardy, with motives that remain a mystery even to his own team.

Zander and his friends face danger fearlessly, as a safe respawn point still promises hope. They move through an ancient hyperspace network, encountering the most varied alien civilizations. A game so realistic it could not be more so — except Earth is empty of people, and the fate of humanity is unknown. Their heroes are stranded in the Darg star system. Now it is about survival. They must find the Phantom Server, the center of the interstellar network built by the ancient Founder civilization. To live, they must decipher its secret — or die trying.

What began as a normal game for a retired veteran has started acquiring features of a terrible, dysfunctional reality. Volper survives only thanks to his combat experience — until he encounters teenagers he simply cannot pass by. He takes them under his wing, teaches them to survive, and watches them become more than just charges: friends, and perhaps a new family. Fate sweeps him up in a whirlwind of events, handing him a nearly forgotten profession with loyal followers and dangerous enemies. A shocking truth about the true nature and purpose of this world changes everything — and now only war remains, by any means necessary, to destroy a false government so that humanity can return to the path of salvation.

With only a few years left to live and ultra-modern medicine powerless to help, Volper immersed himself in virtual reality for one last hurrah. From the very beginning, things went wrong — strict suppression of information, evil mutants, life-like NPCs, and men whose inner darkness goes unrestrained by law. The only way to survive is to use skills acquired over a long life. And when Volper encounters a group of teenagers he cannot leave behind, he takes them under his wing and teaches them not just to survive, but to climb to the top of this reality's food chain — while growing ever more convinced this is not just a game.
