Peril's Prodigy

Garath was a gamer who spent his time adventuring in magical worlds behind a keyboard — until the planet he actually inhabited became drastically more interesting. The ability to shapeshift into a house cat or summon a demon were things that only existed in video games, until they weren't. More akin now to the RPG games he loved than the 9-to-5 grind he'd woken up to, Earth has been fundamentally altered. Garath and a motley crew of friends and neighbors must band together, using their new abilities to hold off increasingly deadly waves of monsters.

Mankind hangs on by a thread in the wake of the apocalypse, and other races are soon to join the struggle for power on Earth. Scattered across the globe, ten Dungeons may provide humanity with the protection and power they'll need to remain relevant. But before a Dungeon can be claimed, it must be conquered. Garath's goal is clear: claim the nearest Dungeon for humanity — though he can't do it alone. Old friends and new acquaintances band together to form an elite team and take on the Tower of Vy'thishrak.

Now commanding a Dungeon with people flocking his way, Garath is living large as king of the world — but he doesn't exactly have it made. City building was hard enough with unquestioning NPCs; forming a brand new society with real people, each with their own problems and motivations, will be his greatest challenge ever. Worse, a powerful enemy right in his backyard threatens to subjugate or obliterate humanity within his territory. Being king of the world isn't all it was cracked up to be.
