The once popular game Yggdrasil was supposed to shut down. But the players who stayed online past the moment the servers went quiet found themselves transported to a game world made real. Leading them is Momonga—a man whose love of games brought him only loneliness in the real world, now a skeletal sorcerer of overwhelming power. As the new Ainz Ooal Gown, he must navigate this strange new world and build a legend from the tomb of his guild.

A beloved game was supposed to reach its end-of-service that day. But the shutdown time passes and the game does not end—NPCs begin to act with their own will, and the guild and its tomb appear to have been transported to another world entirely. The skeletal overlord Momonga's true legend begins here.

A week has passed since Momonga found himself stranded in the game world. Now leading his guild as the Ainz Ooal Gown overlord, he travels disguised as an adventurer to the walled city of E-Rantel, with Narberal the battle maid at his side. A mission to retrieve medicinal herbs leads them toward a sinister cult—and the armor-clad Ainz will face both a ruthless warrior and a legion of the undead.

A peaceful lizardman village faces a merciless army of the undead sent as an "experiment" by Ainz. The village's defenders rise to protect their kin—while the Fifth Floor Guardian Cocytus leads the assault. A brutal portrait of the world's might-makes-right reality.

In the kingdom of Re-Estize, a sinister organization known as the Eight Fingers holds sway over the criminal underworld. Ainz orders Sebas to infiltrate the capital to gather intel, while a young soldier named Climb struggles to hone his skills to better serve the Golden Princess, and the once-great warrior Brian returns home a broken man. Three men will challenge the vicious Eight Fingers.

The annual standoff between the kingdom and the empire takes a dramatic turn when the empire's ruler visits Nazarick and Ainz personally enters the battle. What was expected to be another stalemate becomes something far more devastating.

Now a king, Ainz resolves to make the Sorcerous Kingdom an ideal realm—eternal, prosperous, and one where many races kneel before him. His first step is strengthening the Adventurers' Guild in the empire, while the rulers of surrounding nations scramble to formulate countermeasures against the new power on their borders.

Ainz ventures to the dwarven kingdom in search of lost runic techniques, accompanied by Aura and Shalltear. But the dwarven realm faces an invasion by the subhuman Quagoa—and lurking beyond them are the Frost Dragons, the most powerful race in the Azerlisia Mountains.

The Holy Kingdom, long protected by its great walls, is suddenly assaulted by a coalition of demi-human armies led by the demon emperor Jaldabaoth. With the nation on the brink of collapse, its liberation army turns to an unlikely source of aid: the undead-ruled Sorcerous Kingdom.

Surrounded by forty thousand demi-human troops, the Holy Kingdom's forces fight on. To fulfill his promise as king, Ainz faces the demon emperor Jaldabaoth and his devil maids alone. Will the Holy Kingdom be saved—and at what cost?

The Sorcerous Kingdom's carriage is attacked by kingdom nobles—deliberate provocation or conspiracy? Nazarick judges that the kingdom has chosen war and issues a declaration. With the kingdom in chaos from the earlier Katze Plains massacre, Prince Zanac, the Blue Roses, and Brain make a desperate last stand as the annihilation campaign begins in earnest.

The Theocracy believes war with the Nation of Darkness is inevitable and moves to finally eliminate the elf king who has long been a thorn in their side. Meanwhile, Ainz sets out for the elf country—officially on a paid vacation, but really hoping to help Aura and Mare make friends their own age, even as Theocracy armies march on the capital.

Ainz and Mare have donned disguises and joined Aura in the dark elf village, but finding friends for the twins proves far harder than expected—the villagers don't know how to interact with such extraordinary visitors. Meanwhile, the Theocracy's invasion reaches the elf capital, and some of the world's most powerful figures pursue their own interests in the besieged city.
