Monster Tamer

Malem is a Breaker — he bends the minds of beasts to his will, though his ability is severely limited in scope. Most monsters have always been beyond him. Then one day he accidentally breaks a monster girl, and doors begin to open faster than he ever thought possible.

Malem has joined the forces fighting against Vorgon, a Balor come to destroy the world. With four companions and a handful of monsters at his side, he wages war against an enemy whose host stretches from horizon to horizon. But a curse laid on him by Vorgon's predecessor — the Darkness — keeps trying to drag him down to the underworld at the worst of moments. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, his running must stop.

The Darkness has claimed Malem, and the Breaker now fights for Vorgon. But Malem refuses to let his five bound companions come to harm — and Vorgon grows suspicious of that loyalty. Sent on a fool's errand to infiltrate the kingdom of the Tree Elves and break their queen, Malem faces an army of elite fighters and merciless mages. If he succeeds, he will grow in power far beyond anything the demon ever imagined.

Free of Vorgon at last, Malem watches his new army build a city in the forest for him and his companions. But establishing a settlement in the heart of monster territory draws dangerous attention, and a large-scale attack from an unknown enemy forces Malem back into the fray.

Malem is emperor, commanding an army and a harem of companions — yet he yearns for the nomadic life he left behind. When an old friend flees his kingdom carrying the secret to freeing Malem from a demon's binding, he gives chase. But the friend is not what he seems, and catching him may bring Malem's entire world crashing down.
