Destiny called — and Terry hung up. Introverted computer programmer Terry Williams' life is not exciting, and he is A-OK with that. So the last thing he expects on a hiking trail is for Truck-kun to vehicular-homicide him straight into another world. When he wakes up with a head full of new information and people calling him the hero, he promptly flees destiny — dodging noble plots, avoiding a vengeful church, and being stalked by a monster. Terry's read enough isekai to know the hero gig is reserved for the most masochistic of suckers. The only question is whether he can manipulate the tropes well enough to survive.

Introverted computer programmer Terry Williams' life is not exciting, and he is A-OK with that. So the last thing he expects on a hiking trail is for Truck-kun to vehicular-homicide him straight into another world. When he wakes up with a head full of new information and people calling him the hero, he promptly flees destiny — dodging noble plots, avoiding a vengeful church, and being stalked by a monster with the heart of a coward and the stomach of a glutton. Terry's read enough isekai to recognize the tropes. The question is whether he can manipulate them well enough to survive.

Terry needed a weapon. He got a sidekick. After discovering a few hundred monster soldiers camped within easy striking distance of the town, Terry realizes his trash swords won't cut it. Fixing the problem means talking to people — his ultimate horror. Before he can even get a smith's name, a persistent noble girl nominates herself as his sidekick for the venture. Unable to shake her, Terry resigns himself to taking Kelima along for another round of adventures with the world's grumpiest hero.

Using the search for his absent chicken-lizard Drumstick as an excuse, Terry ditches all his friends for some alone time. Unfortunately, his infamy is spreading faster than he can run from it — nobles near and far are eager to secure the service of a hero who would sooner spoon a cactus than bend the knee. As attacks across the kingdom start coming faster and faster, Terry may find it impossible to do the one thing he really wants: nothing.
