Heretical Fishing

Summoned to a fantastical world and granted powers by a broken System, most freshly minted protagonists would get ready for their stats to start climbing. But Fischer isn't like most MCs — he doesn't want to be a hero at all. Fame, fortune, power? He had enough of all that in his old life. Unfortunately, cosmic forces rarely care for mortal feelings. Fischer is hounded by inept cults, conspiring nobles, and more magical misunderstandings than a preteen relationship. Even his dutiful pet crab is firing energy blades like an anime antagonist.

Power is returning to the world after millennia, ancient constructs are stirring back to life, and one man is doing his best to ignore all that noise. Fischer has everything he could want: cute animal companions, a waterfront property, friendships that blossom by the day, and enough coffee to take out a small elephant. But the capital is growing wise to his movements, the cults are still culting, and his friends have gone behind his back and started a church with the express goal of turning him into a god.

Fischer still can't catch a break. Tropica's forces have just perpetrated the fantasyland equivalent of crashing the king's party and making a series of rude gestures on the way out — and their enemies are about to learn that when you take a bully down to the mat, it's best to make sure they don't get back up. The enemies are unearthing long-forgotten powers, but the hurdles in one's own mind are a lot worse, and Fischer has more than a little debris that needs to be swept off his mental doorstep.

An empire has fallen, another blooms in its wake, and one man — who would rather be fishing, thank you very much — has finally accepted his role as its leader. Tropica has wiped Gormona's royal forces from the map, and Fischer is now at the helm of his own Church. But chi has returned to the area, the Church has grown, and the waves of essence these developments send out have reached distant shores — and unfortunately, they haven't gone unnoticed.

Fischer is finally ready to learn the secrets of the Kallis Realm — just in time for some of his followers to start hoarding them. The world's chi is growing stronger every day, leading to unique awakenings, strange creations, and unexpected allies. Meanwhile, on a distant continent, far less cozy powers are feeding off the same increased essence, and unlike Fischer, they have zero interest in playing nice.
