The orc apocalypse has arrived. In the small village of Berring, Calder runs the Broken Mug tavern — a gifted swordsman whose injured leg tells him his fighting days are over. When a Dark Portal opens in the village square and orcs stream through, a Soldier of Light appears and grants him a Weapon Stone. His leg is healed. His body pulses with superhuman strength. And he'll do anything to protect his people.

The battle for the world of Halanor has only just begun. Calder and the Touched of Berring held off an entire orc army, but the danger has not passed — more Dark Portals are opening all over the world, with all manner of beast stepping through. While Calder struggles to understand what it means to be an Avatar of Light, he and his party venture out of Berring to protect their world from the growing threat.

The siege of Dranador begins. Kashan, the capital of the Lorilan Kingdom, survived a million-strong Darktouched army and a Legendary Black Dragon — but the world of Halanor remains overrun. The Emperor of Talna himself has turned to the Darkness, and Kashan stands as the last bastion of Light. Calder is determined to take back every fallen city. To do so, he must become a true powerhouse — a force of unbridled destruction.
