Coast Guard Captain Jesse Watkins is killed in action. Instead of moving on to the afterlife, Watkins wakes up as something different — he has been reborn as the core of a war-ravaged starship and must work to repair his vessel if he wants to find his way home. Threats to his new existence abound, both in the darkness of space and lurking aboard the ruined hulk of the ship he now commands. With the help of his system adjunct, Captain Watkins must become a vessel powerful enough to survive the journey home.

It's time to expand the fleet. Captain Watkins must build a new, more powerful ship for his core if he wants to survive the kobold pirates, cannibalistic halflings, and other deadly foes that await him in the void of space. At his command are an armed space station, Verminkin crewmates, Drider mobs, and new deadly weapons. But will it be enough?
