Against all odds, Val and his men have survived the latest in a string of battles that should have left them demoralized and defeated — their forces swollen by battle-mechs and five thousand men, though both present their own problems. After taking on a fellow contender for the throne, Val now suffers under a curse that has every living Jordian eager to claim his scalp, including his own men. The only possible cure requires charging into the heart of enemy territory to best an entire clan of Highlords. Val is determined to turn the tables on the bastards who thought they could enslave his entire planet under the guise of a virtual reality game.
