Eldrich Engineer

A disastrous lab experiment flings engineer Charles Smith through a portal into the kingdom of Kortall—where he accidentally kills a Shadow Council sorcerer on arrival. Recruited by King Alfred to defend against an invading army, Charles must use science, engineering, and a crash course in magic to keep the kingdom alive.

The Shadow Council has acquired wraiths—creatures from another dimension immune to most attacks and capable of consuming life force. With the Council on the march again, Charles and his allies must find a legendary Sword of Light said to be the only weapon effective against the wraiths before everything falls to shadow.

To heal the dimensional barrier and end the wraith threat, Charles must find a way back to Earth. But the wraiths haven't been idle—they've invaded Earth as well. Smith finds himself fighting two wars on two worlds against a foe determined to spread until all life is devoured.

A Reaper Queen has crossed the dimensional barrier into Earth, and with her power behind them, the reapers plan to open a massive portal to flood the world with tens of thousands more of their kind. As governments prepare their most terrible weapons, Charles and his allies launch one final conventional assault—beneath the streets of Manhattan.

Charles returns to a Kortall devastated by the wraith war. Alone in a desolate land, he must find his surviving allies and then face a wraith queen who has awakened ancient magic capable of bringing an endless flood of wraiths across the dimensional barrier. He must blend science and magic to stop her before the Gate of Worlds opens.

Charles must beat the Wraith Queen to at least one of three World Stones—virtually indestructible artifacts that could open a portal to an unstoppable horde. Obtaining a Stone is only the beginning; he must then find a way to keep it from the Queen forever, combining logic and magic to end her threat for good.
