Lots of people get isekai'd, and Matt is no exception. After a quickly resolved misunderstanding with a truck-shaped system assistant, he's sent to Gaia — the garden planet. The truck assures him it's a really good fit. It would probably be right, too, if Gaia wasn't a burned-out wasteland completely devoid of life. Matt has all the system-granted advantages of a LitRPG isekai hero — it's just that he arrived a little late for them to do anyone any good. Now he's starving, wandering a sterilized featureless wasteland that doesn't much care about his improved stats, and searching for a system-issued guardian that might not even exist.

When Matt's doctor tells him he only has months to live, he figures it's just really bad luck. But it's about to get worse. When his Earthly form finally expires, a truck-avatar system gives him the chance to become a hero on the paradise world of Gaia — a supposedly verdant land teeming with potential. What he finds instead is a place completely bereft of life. A literal dead planet. Now Matt has to figure out not only how to survive in a completely barren realm, but how to not go mad with a full load of stats, skills, and levels that might mean absolutely nothing — unless there's actually something out there after all.

Aided by his system guardian Lucy and the dungeon system Barry, Matt has begun to build a life for himself on the dead world of Gaia. He's getting good at surviving where nothing else is alive — and starting to have hope that tomorrow will be a better day. There's one snag. The system instance on Gaia is out for revenge, and a nightmare from Gaia's distant past is returning to wreak havoc. Now Matt has to learn not just how to survive, but how to thrive — even when survival itself is in doubt.

Through grit, ingenuity, and a lot of help from his guardian Lucy, Matt has not only survived the dead world of Gaia but helped revive the original Gaians. Now others need his help. He once had a choice between Gaia and Ra'Zor — the "Realm of One Thousand Bleedings." He chose Gaia, but Ra'Zor is calling to him. Teleporting to the new planet, he finds himself at the bottom in terms of both power and knowledge, facing hosts of demons led by a nigh-invincible demon lord, a scheming Church with its own agenda, and a system that seems to like him far too much.
