Codename: Freedom

War is coming, and the government needs more super soldiers than the military can supply. Lucius — a semipro gamer raised by an AI named Destiny — is selected for Codename: Freedom, a VRMMO promising to push virtual reality to the ultimate level. What the developers don't advertise: 100% pain, no dampeners. Hardly settled in, Lucius and the other participants find their entire player city under attack. With the world watching live, he must survive week one and find the motivation to fight when it becomes painfully clear this is far from just another game.

After surviving the onslaught of week one, Lucius has something to prove. He seeks to train under a living legend in hopes of being ready for the goblin siege. As his competition grows in strength, he must push himself harder than ever before — and then the unexpected happens: players start to unlock abilities.

After dealing with the Goblin King, Lucius is unsure how to harness his unlocked power. He finds himself in a desperate race to the top as everyone scrambles to master their strange new abilities. The other players are the least of his worries — war is coming, and the trials of Freedom have only just begun.

After surviving the trials of Freedom, Lucius enters the next stage of the military's super soldier program. Medieval weaponry and gritty fantasy combat are a thing of the past — he must bring what he's learned to the modern battlefield. Fighting futuristic tech isn't his only challenge; he'll go head-to-head against Genesis participants, enlisted military personnel who unlocked their psionics a year before Freedom began.

Prodos's competition is ranking up, and Major Lucius Edwards is a year behind. Without victory, Earth's preparation will be severely lacking. War is coming. Can skill compete with overwhelming force?
