A chimera slowly regains memories of its past life as a human in a nonmagical world. He is in part James Borland — temp office worker on the verge of going permanent — but he is also a savage beast that grows stronger by consuming the flesh of other creatures. The more he remembers, the greater the influence his old human persona has on his actions, often clashing with the beast's instinct to consume prey and become stronger.
