Nic has been Selected — chosen to leave his own body behind and become a monster, a footsoldier for the System's relentless integration of new worlds. His mission is to break the native inhabitants of a planet called Earth into submission. But Nic has never loved the System, and his home planet is a depleted husk it forgot long ago.
