Beta-Testing the Apocalypse

Dex is just your average IT professional — until a glowing gem opens a portal in his apartment and starts counting down to his death. An autistic quality assurance engineer might not be anyone's first choice for a hero, but he has a certain set of skills that catches the attention of the Daemon System as it implements a secret beta-test on Earth. The Essence Wavefront is imminent, bringing with it an endless invasion. By reporting bugs while fighting for his life in pocket dimensions full of deathtraps and monsters, Dex will grow more powerful than he can imagine — all while uncovering the truths of the upcoming apocalypse.

Dex accepts an offer from the mysterious Sector Administrator to work as an agent of the Daemon System. The upside: lots of insider information. The downside: things are even worse than he imagined — most of the small group of chosen testers have died, and the Beta Test meant to prepare humanity is failing. Dex hated group projects in school, but this job is too big for one person. He needs help — if he can figure out how to break the news of the approaching apocalypse and recruit talented people into a lethally dangerous beta test.
