Samantha, a young attorney, is transported to an alternate reality in her sleep — a world governed by an all-powerful System with mechanics similar to the fantasy games she played back on Earth. After a brutal introduction to her new reality, Sam is granted a class explicitly curated by the enigmatic System. Equal parts artist, survivor, explorer, and battle junkie, her only limitation is her lack of knowledge about her new magical powers — a limitation she is rapidly overcoming as she explores and battles her way across the landscape.

After her battle with an evolved being, Sam discovers she has damaged her body and soul — and that she may not be entirely human, with a potentially infinite number of siblings she never knew existed. She doesn't have time to dwell on it. The church has found Nara's whereabouts and attacks immediately, only to discover what an angry Pathfinder who just tore an evolved creature apart with her bare hands can do. The journey continues across Hallista, featuring raids, ancient dungeons, epic battles, lore, and Sam blowing herself up — multiple times.

Sam continues her search for a way off the planet Hallista. Things quickly spiral when Nara's world quest leads her back to Sam, and together they uncover the true intentions of the church. Sam and her eclectic group are pushed to their limits by meddling goddesses, a crashed spaceship dungeon, deadly trees, a dungeon break, and brutal battles against increasingly powerful foes. Sam's biggest surprises, however, come from an unexpected declaration of love and her first encounter with her ultimate avatar. Sam knows she must evolve — she just wishes it didn't have to hurt so much.

What begins as a simple escort mission for royal ally Cara Alessia hurtles Sam and her crew deep into uncharted space, where alien megastructures, strange factions, and dangerous curiosities lurk behind every glowing gate. From negotiating with tentacled truth-finders to dodging the deadly egos of imperial politics, Sam must balance diplomacy with her knack for blowing things up.
