Rob didn't think of himself as anyone special, but when a pitch-black portal tried to wrap his best friend in chains, he stepped up without thinking and found himself ensnared instead. His moment of heroism results in being torn away from everyone he knew and loved, kidnapped by an unknown force that leaves him with a note: "Good luck." Thrown into the wilderness of Elatra, a hostile fantasy world ruled by levels, stats, and bizarre video game logic, he finds himself entirely out of his depth. Overcoming the wilds is just the first step — Elatran society is incredibly hostile to humans, having just come off a devastating war that left over half the population dead, and getting the locals to trust the last human in existence is a struggle in and of itself. Between being powerless in a world that hates him and suffering under a System that is altering his mind in unwanted ways, Rob quickly finds that monsters aren't nearly the biggest thing to worry about.

A chain, a portal, and darkness — that was all it took for Rob's life to go from college to surviving in a hostile fantasy world full of horribly mutated creatures. Despite discovering civilization and making allies, his newfound home was short-lived, leaving the survivors to pick up the pieces. After winning the respect of the locals through a heroic near-sacrifice, Rob travels with them, recognizing the importance of having people to watch your back. A botched meeting with the Elven ruler's soldiers leads to thousands of people, Rob included, fleeing to the northern wastelands. As Rob slowly loses himself, he realizes that surviving just for the sake of seeing the next day won't be enough to keep him sane — he and his friends will need to band together and support each other both physically and mentally.

Against all odds, Rob and the Deserters have survived their second encounter with the eldritch abomination known as the Blight — only for Rob to make first contact with the gods of Elatra in a very aggressive way. His enemies keep piling up, and things are looking to get tougher from here on out. If Rob and his friends want to survive their upcoming trials, they'll need to gain Levels, make new allies, and travel to the ends of the world and back again. Along the way, they'll discover secrets behind Elatra's history that shake their preconceptions of the world to its very core.

After curing the Corruption plague in Fiend territory, Rob, Riardin's Rangers, and the Deserters have settled into their new home. Their well-earned rest is cut short when a Dwarven messenger arrives, begging for assistance — the Blight has returned, and without Rob's help, Dwarven territory will fall. As the mission evolves into something even beyond killing an eldritch abomination, Rob's strength and willpower will be tested. Whether it's navigating world leaders, confronting the Dragon Queen's fraying sanity, or discovering shocking secrets about the system itself, there's never a dull moment for Riardin's Rangers.

Rob and Riardin's Rangers have returned triumphant after assisting Dwarven and Merfolk territory, enduring Blights, betrayals, and bombs. An alliance has been brokered between nations, and for the first time, the Blight seems like it's on the ropes. But it isn't long before news of a brewing war between the Harpies and Dragonkin draws them in — and they become embroiled in a dark conspiracy that threatens to shake Elatra to its core. As Corruption rises in Harpy territory, Rob finds himself surrounded by enemies on all sides, with two Leaders, the Blight, and the gods all setting their sights on him.

In the western Deadlands, the Blight has risen. Something unknown yet terrible is transpiring there. Panicked, the gods of Elatra send a message to all high-level Combat Class members: band together, stop this threat, or all will be lost. Rob and Riardin's Rangers find themselves in the awkward position of needing to ally with the gods and the Dragon Queen to survive. It's an uneasy alliance that only grows more strained as time goes on — but it's nothing compared to what awaits them in the Deadlands. Forces are colliding. Only one faction will survive.
