Alpha Physics!

In the apocalypse, the first weapon Adrian will have to upgrade is himself. He's an operations manager overseeing a construction job in the wilderness when an unknown energy force changes the very nature of life itself — from the smallest organism to the top of the food chain. Luckily, this has happened to other species before, and everyone receives an interface that survivors of similar events have used to navigate an alien landscape. Adrian is stranded in the middle of nowhere, with days or weeks of travel between him and his family, in a world full of monsters and mayhem where survival means beating the learning curve.

Adrian survived the first three weeks and, by sheer luck, saved Wagga Wagga by killing the Bird. Now he needs to get back to his family, but his non-sapient interface seems to have its own agenda. He refuses to be a puppet — and there's too much overt manipulation going on for his comfort. A new monster threatens Wagga, and delay after delay keeps Adrian from starting his journey. The monsters are getting smarter, the threat level on the road to Melbourne keeps rising, and the horror of the Alpha event becomes ever clearer. Nothing will stop him from trying to reach his family, but the difficulty of the journey is real.

Adrian and his companions continue their journey toward Melbourne. The pathway through the post-apocalypse landscape remains harrowing; as they travel, they run into dysfunctional towns that need their help and must find unorthodox solutions to defeat the monsters that plague the landscape — some of which are extinction-level threats. Throughout it all, Adrian focuses on growing the strength of himself and his team.

In Albury, Adrian and his team must face the most terrifying of all enemies: his fellow humans. Adrian's journey toward Melbourne continues, and he realizes that sometimes the only path to success is to do things slower. He has promised to accept a quest, but the crime family that has taken over the town is both stronger and richer than them. They will need to use every trick in the book to defeat them, knowing that mistakes have real consequences.

The team has done everything right — killing off all of Adhava's children and denying her reinforcements — but now she has fled into a dungeon. Adrian and his team must hunt her down in an environment she controls and has had time to prepare. With Adhava ambushing them at every turn, it is going to be a tough fight. If they succeed, the reward is a free Albury; if they fail, there are no second chances.

In the final book of the series, Adrian must finish the last leg of his journey back to Melbourne. He faces threats he is aware of — weak but numerous enemies that no one else would challenge. With his companions, new and old, along with a recent energy windfall, Adrian has the fighting strength to handle monsters that would otherwise be problematic. New challenges are thrown in his path, and ultimately he must get past the echidna guarding the approach to Melbourne. Sometimes there is more to being a hero than luck.
